Every month, we share some highlights of what’s been happening in and around KBA.
This month, read all about the fabulous charity events we’ve been getting involved with – and find out why Karen Fogg has hit the headlines.
You may recall that Laura Jones, our Trainee Paraplanner, welcomed beautiful baby Nancy into the world in September 2023. We’re thrilled that Laura is now back from maternity leave.
While we’re still not quite sure how she managed to drag herself away from adorable Nancy, we’re thrilled to have Laura back in the office.
Work anniversary shoutouts
Jane Catterall celebrated her fourth year with the KBA family. Playing a crucial role in organising our clients’ mortgages, Jane does a fantastic job for our clients and is a great support to our team of Financial Planners. Her work has made an incredible difference over the last few years and we look forward to many more successful years to come.
Meanwhile, Matt Marsh has been with us for a year. Matt has been working hard in the last 12 months – not only has he been busy acing his financial planning exams, but he’s also earned a well-deserved promotion to Trainee Financial Planner. We’re looking forward to watching him achieve many more years of success.
Karen Fogg hits the headlines
You may remember reading about Karen’s tempting “Afternoon Tea” events in previous news updates. Well, now Karen’s story has been featured in the Leigh Journal, after becoming a top fundraiser for Breast Cancer Now.
Sadly, Karen’s Auntie Christine passed away after losing a hard-fought battle with breast cancer in 2014. Ever since, Karen has been hosting “Afternoon Tea” events to raise money for the charity and celebrate the life of her beloved auntie.
Karen said: “I started hosting Afternoon Teas for Breast Cancer Now after my Auntie Christine was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“We were only nine years apart in age, so Christine was more like a sister to me. I looked up to her so much. She was the person I’d turn to for advice. So, it was a huge shock when she received her diagnosis in 2006, especially as she was only 49. Her two sons – my cousins – were young at the time. It just felt so wrong.
“But despite it all, Christine never stopped being Christine. I used to call her when I was ironing, and we’d joke about her wearing a blue wig when she lost her hair. She did so well with her treatment, and we were hopeful she’d recover. But then the cancer returned.
“I hosted my first Afternoon Tea in 2014 – just a few months after Christine sadly died. Christine had been such an important presence in my life. Losing her was devastating, which is why it was important for me to keep hosting the Afternoon Teas to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Now.”
Karen is hosting her 10th Afternoon Tea event on Saturday 27 July, with daughters Amy and Lucy.
Alongside tea and cakes, there’ll be a tombola and a variety of games to enjoy too. All the KBA ladies will be there, alongside many other lovely local people so it looks set to be the biggest and best yet.
All proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Now. To donate please visit the JustGiving page, and if you’d like to come along and show your support, please get in touch to find out more.
Our Southport office successfully nominated Southport Soup Kitchen for a charity donation
We’re thrilled to highlight the amazing work of the Southport Soup Kitchen…
About the Soup Kitchen
For over 20 years, they’ve been serving hot meals, providing emotional support, and offering essential provisions to those in need. Open on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays from 1 pm to 2 pm, they create a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
Why we chose them
Our Trainee Financial Planner, Joe Webster, nominated the Soup Kitchen, inspired by personal experiences. Being a local gem just up the road from our Southport YBS agency and financial planning office, it was the perfect charity for us to support.
Celebrating success
We were overjoyed when our nomination was successful, and even more so when the Soup Kitchen received the maximum support. This reinforces our dedication to community engagement and the impact we can have.
Making a difference
Supporting local charities is crucial. It not only benefits the community but also boosts our team’s morale. Meeting Andrea, one of the directors at the Soup Kitchen, was inspiring and made us proud to be part of such meaningful work. We’re honoured to support the Southport Soup Kitchen and excited to continue making a difference together!
